Overview

In collaboration with NDTV, Film Companion brought its special coverage of the Cannes Film Festival 2023 to audiences in India.

Upper Grove Studio partnered with the Film Companion team to handle post-production and content creation for this daily coverage  transforming raw footage from the festival into clear, compelling stories, delivered at speed.

The Challenge

Cannes moves fast. Coverage needs to move faster.

Every day at the festival ended with hours of footage from premieres, red carpets, interviews, and conversations, all of which needed to be shaped into a coherent daily narrative and delivered in time for morning broadcast. The challenge wasn’t just editing, but it was making sense of the day, overnight.

The Approach

At the end of each day, footage from the French Riviera was sent to us. Working through the early hours of the morning, we helped shape the day’s events into structured, broadcast-ready stories.

This involved:

  • Storyboarding the daily narrative

  • Creating short, bite-sized segments for easy viewing

  • Editing a full wrap-up video capturing the essence of the day

The focus was on clarity, rhythm, and pace allowing the coverage to feel informed, immersive, and seamless.

What We Did

Post-Production & Story Shaping

  • Edited daily wrap-up videos for broadcast

  • Created short-form stories from long-format footage

  • Maintained narrative flow across premieres, interviews, and fashion coverage

Social & Partner Content

In addition to daily coverage, we also created select social media reels and promotional assets for Film Companion’s brand partners ensuring consistency across platforms while staying true to the editorial tone.

The Outcome

The coverage went out daily as planned sharp, timely, and cohesive.

Across interviews, premieres, red carpet moments, and behind-the-scenes glimpses, the storytelling helped audiences experience Cannes as it unfolded day by day, story by story.
